CALL FOR PAPERS

Culinary Mind/Gastronomica Lecture in
Philosophy of Food

Proposal submission deadline: December 1, 2025

Proposal selection announcement: January 5, 2026

Online lecture: Mid-March, 2026

Submission of manuscript for anonymous peer review at Gastronomica: May 2026

Culinary Mind: Center for the Philosophy of Food and the Gastronomica Editorial Collective are inviting submissions for the inaugural Culinary Mind/Gastronomica Lecture in the Philosophy of Food.

Conceived to encourage the flourishing of scholarship at the intersection of philosophy and food studies, the lecture is scheduled to be given mid-March 2026 to an international, virtual audience, with the option to record it and post it to Culinary Mind’s website.

Submissions for the lecture will first be evaluated anonymously by a panel composed of Culinary Mind and Gastronomica members. Final selections will be de-anonymized and will take into account the cover letter as well to ensure finalists meet the early career scholar criteria.

The selected scholar will be invited to develop their lecture into an essay for consideration for publication at Gastronomica: The Journal for Food Studies. After the standard peer review, if accepted for publication, the essay will appear as a “target article” along with two to three invited responses from other scholars. The scholar will also be invited to discuss their published article on the Gastronomica podcast.

REQUIREMENTS

Submissions should be from early career scholars (< 10 years from PhD) and can address any topic in the philosophy of food. Exceptions regarding what counts as early career can be considered on a case by case basis (e.g., in reference to career breaks due to parental leave, disability, illness, etc.).
